Dances Styles We Teach

Ballroom

Ballroom Dancing can be enjoyed in a dance studio setting, socially and in dance competitions. Ballroom dancing, often referred to as “partner dancing,” is a type of dancing that is often danced with a partner.

We offer Ballroom Dance Lessons for Waltz, Rumba, Tango, Swing, Mambo, Cha-Cha, and more. As well as both American and International dance styles. 

Country Western

Country Western Dancing can be enjoyed in a dance studio setting, socially and in dance competitions. 

We offer Country Dancing Lessons for Country Two-Step, Country Polka, Waltz, Country Night Club Two-Step, Tripple-Two, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing and Cha-Cha.

Social Latin

Social Latin Dance Styles are enjoyed and danced in dance studios, socially and in dance competitions. Some of these fun-filled dances include Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba and Samba. Many of these dances have Afro-Cuban roots which gives them their lively flare. 

Ballet

Our Solo Dance Styles include Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary. These dance styles are fantastic for everyone. They help build strength, endurance, improve coordination, flexibility, posture, cognitive development and much more.

Most frequent questions and answers

If you do not have a partner, that perfectly fine and more common than you think! During your private dance lessons, you’ll be dancing with your instructor, so having a partner isn’t necessary. In group classes and workshops, we encourage partner rotations. This allows the students to have the opportunity to dance with multiple partners, including the teacher in most cases. Rather its private dance lessons, group dance classes or dance workshops, you don’t need a partner to participate.

Just like any sport, you should try to wear the proper equipment and attire when participating! In dance, first thing you’ll want to do, is to start looking for the proper shoes to dance in. There are specific styles of shoes that complement each style of dance. For partner dancing, we recommend starting with a simple ballroom practice shoe. This style of shoe will work well, with any style of dance you are learning.

When searching online, you’ll want to look up Women’s Ballroom Practice shoe or Men’s Ballroom Practice Shoe online or go to your local dance boutique shop to try some on. For Ballet and Jazz, you can start with just purchasing either Ballet or Jazz Shoes. Eventually you will need one for each style. In Contemporary, you are welcome to dance barefoot, or wear either Ballet or Jazz Shoes. In DanzeFIT (our dance fitness class), you will need a pair of athletic Shoes, and for Yoga, you can go barefoot or wear socks.

As far as the proper attire to wear when dancing, it all depends of the style of dance and your comfortably. For example, if you are learning partner dancing, you will want to either wear business casual attire or athletic clothing. If you are learning Ballet, Jazz or Contemporary please wear something more form fitting so that the instructor can clearly see your lines to make sure you are in the correct alignment. A good rule of thumb, is to dance in something you can move in and something you’re comfortable in.

In your first dance lesson, your dance instructor will take a few minutes to learn more about your goals and discuss the details of your chosen dance program. From there, he/she will discuss your road map and lesson plan for the day. After that, you’ll dive into your lesson. At the end of the lesson, your instructor will recap the dance lesson and answer any questions you may have. Lastly, they’ll give you a few things to work on before your next lesson.

In your first dance class, the teacher will introduce themselves to everyone and welcome everyone onto the floor. Then the teacher will dive into their lesson plan for the class. It is important to mention that we encourage partner rotations in group classes and workshops, so you’ll be dancing with multiple people throughout class. If you have a partner and do not want to rotate, that’s perfectly fine!

At the end of the class, the instructor will give a few announcements and record a quick recap video that will be uploaded onto Band, a communication app we use for videos and studio updates that members have access to, so that you can practice throughout the week.

This is the beauty of private lessons! Hours are flexible and you learn to dance on your time. Our business hours are Monday – Friday from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM -9:00 PM. Learning to dance is a process, which like any skill or sport, takes time. Our best advice for new dancers, is to be patient and stay consistent. Consistency is key, in learning any new skill, which is why most students take anywhere from 2 – 5 lessons per week. Anything less, makes it difficult to progress but if that’s all you can commit too, it’s fine and it’s still better than not dancing. At the end of the day, it’s important for you to be comfortable and if that means only one lesson a week, then that’s fine with us. Either way, we’ll help you become the dancer you are meant to be!

Absolutely! Performing and/or competing is a great way to challenge yourself. Without a challenge, you may become static in your dance growth. Therefore, we encourage all our students to compete and/or perform.

(If this is not something you are interested in doing, you do not have to. We would never want you do to something, you’re not comfortable with. We have other ways for you to continue your growth as a dancer, that don’t include performing or competing.)

Before you start dancing, it’s important for us to better understand your needs and goals as a dancer. Therefore, we require all new students to participate in a brief consultation or an intro lesson to start. This gives the dance director an opportunity to better understand your needs, so they can make the appropriate recommendations on which membership options and dance programs, would best fit your needs.
